What is graphic design? It's how the world communicates to you.

People often view Graphic Design as the communication of a designer to an audience, now although this is the crucial aim of a designers job there is however a little more to it. A good designer can talk and communicate to the world through his or her work, but a great designer can be spoken to by his or her surroundings.
Above are just some examples of how different designers look at the world and the things they notice. They are drawing our attention to the things we would normally miss on a day to day basis. This kind of work really shows off how clever they are and it works to a positive effect as most audiences appreciate the cleverness of others. Innovation is key.
