Visual language - Books and Book Craft More Artists.

Georgia Russell uses a scalpel to cut, shred and slice books into these really spectacular deconstructive sculptures. There are several links to websites about her and her work on this post, my favourite being thedesignfiles.net it features her work in a more calm and legible side and she makes the covers of books look really fun and unusual.

Similarly to Russell, Sue Blackwell cuts out parts of books to make these delicate sculptures and gives the viewer the sensation that the book is coming to life.

Visual language - Books and Book Craft Sam Winston.

Ever since I discovered Sam Winston's work during my photography elective i've repeatedly been able to relate back to is work I feel a definite inspiration from all his creativity. These are photographs of his 'Folded Dictionary' project where he has folded each page in all the 20 volumes of the Oxford English Dictionary differently to make these engaging geometric shapes and contours.
His work is based on telling stories but it's best explained on his website below where these images are sourced from.

What is a line? - Off Gravity.

I found this set of images in a magazine called Rugged (issue 17 winter 08/09) it was lying around my room for a couple of years so i picked it up and flicked through and came across this.

the campaign is called 'Off Gravity' and its an advert for Carhartt when they had a new selection of heavyweight gear.

I instantly likened the 3D shapes to the works of Delta, Allard, etc and i noticed how the shapes all appear separate, there is no connection between to shapes these are focussed on the position alone. The white background gives no boundary so the shapes become to focal point of the image. I assume this has been done to imply that the shapes are suspended in 0 gravity or are falling slow towards and undeterminable ground surface.

I like the visual of the shapes in suspense i will experiment with adding these ideas to my own drawings of shape and form and see what affect it has on my compositions.

What is a line? - Further artist research.

Through looking at the webpage of Michelle Allard i found a link to the designers of the website...

...which then lead me to some more artists that they have designed websites for.

Danielle Tegeder, whose work looks much like Kandinsky and has similar qualities to Delta and Michelle Allard, paints abstract pictures focussing on shape form and line. Each artist has a slightly different aesthetic which is inspiring me in my drawings and personal development of my illustrations.

What is a line? - Andreas Nicolas Fischer.

http://dasautomat.com/

There's very little information about Andreas Nicolas Fischer on this website but there is plenty of his work.
'He works with generative systems, physical representations of data as well as visualizations of digital processes to create graphic representations, sculptures and installations.'

What is a line? - Michelle Allard.

Michelle Allard's work consists of unusual instalments and sculptures that are situated in seemingly ordinary places. The materials she uses are all things that are used in house holds and have a tendency to be stuff used for packaging.

"I explore possible and fabricated conditions that evade notions of stability and constancy. Focus and negotiation is placed on progression and circulation through accumulating, layering, and reforming various quantities of common manufactured and household materials such as polystyrene, plastics, carpeting, cardboard and office paper. My work navigates around the ideas of production, 'making', material build-up, and flow. I consider the notion that everyday materials and systems, while appearing stable and knowable, often involve a vacillation of processes that defy stabilization."

Above is a link to her main website below is a link to a separate website that archives many artists.

The shapes and forms in most of these images are what i want to illustrate into my pictures to push the boundaries of what should and shouldn't be there making my work quite abstract.
